Day 2 at the NCAA Wresting Championships, and Iowa State is down to four wrestlers. Andrew Sorensen is the lone Cyclone (poet didn't know it) without a loss, but fret not, most of the wrestlers are in prime position to take 3rd.
Ryak Finch looks to continue in the consolation bracket at 125 lbs. Yesterday he went 1-1, losing the first round by decision (points) but getting the W in his next match with a pin (a really good thing, for those who don't know) in 0:52 seconds (really fast). His next match is against Jonathon Morrison of Oklahoma State.
Luke Goettl is also in the consolation bracket at 141 lbs. Yesterday he also went 1-1, and just like Finch, lost in the first round by points but pinning his second opponent. Today he gets Mitchell Port of Edinboro.
Andrew Sorensen, the 165-pounder, is 2-0 in the tournament thus far, with both wins coming from points. In the quarterfinals today, he gets Brandon Hatchett from Lehigh.
Boaz Beard has an awesome name, but unfortunately names don't get you wins. Beard went 0-2 yesterday and has been eliminated from the tournament.
Matthew Gibson, the heavyweight for Iowa State, went 1-1 yesterday, losing first round but surviving to the next round with a win by points over UNI wrestler Blaine Beale. Today he gets Peter Sturgeon of Central Michigan.
One more loss for those wrestlers already in the consolation bracket will eliminate them. There will be updates throughout the day in the comments section as the wrestlers finish their matches.
