The 2018 Iowa State football recruiting class is collecting some heavy hitters early on in the summer.
Trevor Downing, an offensive lineman from Creston, Iowa, has been a top target for Matt Campbell and his staff for quite some time now. As of late Thursday afternoon, Downing has officially committed to Iowa State.

Downing is a 3-star prospect with a 84 composite ranking on 247Sports. He had offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas State and Missouri. Iowa State was his first offer back in 2015, and given his desire to study agriculture, Ames was always bound to be a good fit.
At Creston, Downing has been tabbed as one of the most explosive run blockers in the entire state. Many college scouts project him to fall into the offensive guard position in college. At 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, he already has the frame to play at the college level. Given some time to refine a few things, Tom Manning should have a heck of a prospect on his hands.
Downing is Iowa State’s 7th commit in the 2018 recruiting class. Expect things to continue to move fast as some recruits may want the process to be over before their senior season begins this fall. Stay tuned to WRNL for more recruiting news as it happens.
