Sound the sirens again! May has certainly been good to the Iowa State recruiting efforts as 3-star Florida cornerback Anthony Johnson Jr. committed to Iowa State today. This marks the third commitment of the week for the Cyclones after yesterday’s announcement from Trevor Downing and Wednesday’s announcement from C.J. Bolar. Johnson took to Twitter early Friday afternoon to announce his decision.

Johnson held additional offers from Tulane, Buffalo, and Marshall. Currently he is the only cornerback commitment of the 2018 class, so don’t be surprised if Iowa State continues to pursue Michigan cornerback Vincent Gray.
Johnson Jr. is regarded as one of the better cover corners that Iowa State was after and it is apparent in his film that he has elite cover skills and speed. Johnson Jr’s 6-foot-1 frame fits in the mold of corners that Matt Campbell has been targeting since arriving in Ames.
With today’s commitment from Johnson Jr. the 2018 Cyclone class moves to eight members. Given that this class was always going to be on the small side it will be interesting to see what, if any, noise that Campbell and staff create over the summer.
