Royce White on Iowa State's Future Without Him

Earlier today, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein chatted up Royce White, currently training in Atlanta for the NBA draft. Royce talks about his game and Iowa State basketball without his services.

Well, I fucked up and missed last week's.

My confession: my binge at VEISHEA tonight will be the first time I've gotten legitimately drunk in over a month. 'Bout damn time.

Texas A&M Embarks For the SEC, Immediately Gets Lost

Aggiesx-large_medium

Texas A&M University is about to go on a journey, a journey that will take them far from home. They're about to enter the Deep South, unfamiliar territory for most Aggies. So in addition to grabbing their juice boxes, strapping their helmets on and securing themselves in their booster seats, Texas A&M took the extra precaution of emblazoning their t-shirts with a map of their destination. The only problem? They included North Carolina on the map, a state that definitely does not contain an SEC school (yet).

So congratulations A&M. In your excitement to get out into that big new playground of the world, you forgot basic geography. This probably won't be a problem, until Kevin Sumlin shows up at the Tarheels' stadium on a random Saturday afternoon, demanding to be let into the locker room. Word of advice to the security guard; just humor the team. They'll act all excited at first, bouncing off the walls, but they'll tire out eventually and fall asleep.

Unfortunately the producers of the shirt, Aggieland Outfitters, have taken it down from their website; but if you want to own a piece of memorabilia that really sums up what Texas A&M is all about, just check various dumpsters around College Station. These shirts are probably making their way there shortly.

ONE AND DONE: White NBA-Bound

Royce White will be entering the NBA draft this year after one season of eligibility at Iowa State. As the most dynamic player Iowa State has seen in a long time, he'll be missed, but he had these nice words to say about us:

"First of all, I want to thank the entire community of Ames and Iowa State University. There is no way to express how much I appreciate everything this community has done for me," White said. "Ames has given me my life back, supported me in a way that allowed me to find myself, to improve myself as a man even more so than an athlete."

"Coach Hoiberg is one of the greatest men I've ever met. I'm proud to have shared a piece of his legacy in his town," White added. "I will always cherish Cyclone fans."

Not Enough Quality Wins?

A knock against ISU, at least for a while, by Jerry Palm among others was that the Clones didn't have a strong enough record vs. the RPI top 100 (we ended up with a respectable 6 - Kansas, Lehigh, K-ST(2), Texas, Baylor) and 2 more over those just out of the top 100 (Iowa and OSU). But when you consider that 5 of those 6 wins came against teams making it to the round of 32 it puts ISU's quality wins in a different perspective.

In fact, ISU is 5-2 against the round of 32 teams and their only two losses came against teams they also beat (Kansas, Baylor).

On another note... Everyone kept talking about the UConn - Kentucky rematch, but I am a little suprised that nobody has picked up the narrative on the ISU - Kentucky rematch. It was 20 years ago that ISU played Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA tournament when a young Freshman Fred Hoiberg played in his first NCAA tournament against the likes of guys named Mashburn and Farmer, and they almost pulled that one off. Kentucky was a heavy favorite that year against the #10 seed Cyclones and made it to the finals against Duke. Now in his first tournament as a Coach Hoiberg gets another chance.

Championship Wrestling, Day 2

via cdn2-b.examiner.com

Day 2 at the NCAA Wresting Championships, and Iowa State is down to four wrestlers. Andrew Sorensen is the lone Cyclone (poet didn't know it) without a loss, but fret not, most of the wrestlers are in prime position to take 3rd.
