Bowl eligibile Iowa State looks to improve their pecking order in the Bowl selection process by winning at Kansas State on Saturday. Check out Paul Rhoads' press conference. What's been at the root of Iowa State's success lately? Having the Big 12's best defense in November sure doesn't hurt.

Iowa State Volleyball

Christy Johnson-Lynch has led the Cyclones to a #4 overall seed in the NCAA tournament despite a difficult schedule.

Iowa State Basketball

The Mens' team has been rolling, finishing with a 4-0 record in the South Padre Invitational, but lost the title to Northern Iowa, as the tiebreaker was fewest points allowed. Clearly, whoever came up with those rules has a mega hardon for Big 10 basketball. The Cyclones will have a chance to beat Northern Iowa Wednesday at Hilton.

The women split games at the Nugget Classic, losing to Penn State, but defeating Butler. Chelsea Poppens was named to the all tournament team.

Both the teams had players recognized by the conference, as Chris Babb was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week, and Nikki Moody was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.

Around College Football

Here's my BlogPoll for week 14 - criticize away.

For the record, I'd like to see Oklahoma State in the National Championship, and one could argue they do have a better resume than Alabama, as Stewart Mandel sort of does here (too bad "losses to ISU" isn't yet an official BCS category) , but Bill Connelly does a fine job of arguing rematch is the most "fair" option, though I'm getting tired of hearing about how a loss to ISU is THAT bad. Yeah, we're not LSU, but we're also not Kansas.

Speaking of Kansas, rumors abound that Mike Leach is flying in to interview for the KU job, Paul Rhoads' name has been brought up at ASU, but the only solid news is that Urban Meyer has started emulating Brett Favre's retirement sagas and taken the Ohio State job.
