Statue of Fred-bertyGive me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
Those are the words emblazoned on a plaque at the Statue of Liberty, as part of a sonnet called "The New Colossus", that welcomes all comers to the greatest country in the world.
Fred Hoiberg's got his own version:
Give Fred your tired of Michigan State, or Tom Izzo,
Your huddled masses of clutch basketball talent yearning to breathe free
(As long as they sit for a year per NCAA guidelines)
Sure, it doesn't roll of the tongue as well, but I need it to tie this story together.
On Wednesday it was confirmed that former Michigan State guard Korie Lucious will transfer to Iowa State to conclude his final year of eligibility. Korie will be eligible in for the 2012-13 season after sitting out next year. He is the second MSU transfer in recent years joining 2011-12 eligible guard Chris Allen, though with only a single year each they'll never see the court together.
The addition of Mr Lucious makes Iowa State a true melting pot of basketball cultures from around the country. In the past two seasons the Cyclones have welcomed new additions from such foreign, third-world Universities as:
-> Michigan State
-> Northern AND Southern Illinois
-> Minnesota
-> Penn State
Making the next few seasons a true "cross-section of America" ... or at least a few states in the middle anyway.
