WRNL Bloggers Predict the MBB Season

WRNL predicts the 2012-2013 Iowa State Men's Basketball Season.

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE

Just as we did prior to the football season, we've compiled the predictions of our resident bloggers to illustrate how we feel this basketball season will play out. Sure it's a risk to open ourselves to this type of potential ridicule if we're wrong, but hey, we're semi grown up, we can probably take the abuse. Ladies and gentlemen, onto the predictions... (everything sic'd, I'm way too lazy to make these guys look like competent writers)

Cylentbutdeadly

Earlier I predicted Iowa State to go 12-1 in the non-conference, but there was a little blind optimism there. Ultimately, I think the Cyclones will go 11-2 prior to Big 12 play. I see ISU splitting their two games at the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas and dropping a heart breaker at home to BYU. ISU will avenge last year's loss to Drake and make it four in a row over iowa, winning a high-scoring affair in Iowa City.

In conference play, I see the Cyclones putting together an 8-1 home record, but struggling a little away from Hilton, going 4-5 on the road. At 12-6, ISU will wrap up the 3-seed for the Big 12 tournament and will actually win a game in Kansas City for the first time since 2005.

The selection committee will slot Iowa State as a 6-seed and the Cyclones will win their opening round game for the second consecutive year, but will be denied a Sweet 16 appearance by a sneaky-good 3-seed that will go on to win the National Title.

Cyforpresident

12-1 non-conference with 1 loss in Vegas to Cincy.

11-7 Big 12 record with one win in Kansas City (FINALLY). Coach Dreamy wins Big 12 Coach of the Year again. Cylburn wins Big 12 Newcomer of the year.

24-9 (11-7) before the NCAA tournament. Puts ISU around a 7-seed. Cyclones win the first round game against Wichita State, lose in the second round to Louisville. Finish the year 25-10.

This is all fact and will happen.

I am a Cyentist

11-2 non-conference. Losses to Cincinnati and some random team. Let's say BYU.

11-7 in conference. ISU wins at least one in the Big 12 tournament. ISU gets a six seed in the tourney.

11-2 non-conference. Loss to Cincy and Drake (yup).

I'll take an OU sweep just to break this 11-7 consensus, even though I think what Cyentist and CyFor have laid out is the most likely outcome.

Here's the shocker: We go on a tear in KC and win the Big 12 tourney. We're built for that kind of a run. Lucious shows shades of Tinsley, and everyone just clicks. Our big men show an interior toughness that had cost us some road games earlier in the year, and Chris Babb heats up from beyond the arc.

11-2 non-conference. One loss in Vegas and one loss elsewhere. A toss up between BYU, Drake, and Iowa (order of most likely).

12-6 in conference. Win two games in Kansas City and make the Dance as a 5-seed.

Same as what Cyentist said for non-conference. Fully expecting Iowa fans to get pissy about all of us proclaiming a win at Carver Hawkeye like they did at Kinnick.

10-8 in conference.

21-10 overall, 8 seed again, lose in 2nd round again (to Indiana)

Feel free to post your predictions below and tell us how you feel the Cyclones will do in Fred Hoiberg's third year at the helm.
