Thoughts on the Cyclones' Preseason Rankings

Overall it would be tough to complain with these rankings.  A few guys, like Gabe Moreno and Lelund Weatherspoon, are likely underranked right now due to their performances at NCAAs in March.  But both will get the chance for some early wins to push themselves up into the top ten.  In Lelund's case it will happen right off the bat, as he'll get #4 Zach Epperly of Virginia Tech in his first match of the season.

For the five unranked weights there are two that should show up pretty quickly in the rankings - Nathan Boston at 125 and Marcus Harrington at 197 are unranked primarily because the ranking services generally do not include freshmen in their preseason rankings.  A couple of early wins and they'll show up in the rankings by mid-November.  157 is a question mark, with several unproven freshmen fighting for the starting spot.  At 184 the Cyclones are counting on JUCO national champ Patrick Downey to become eligible in the second semester and quickly jump into the top 20, but that weight will likely stay unranked through the first half of the season.  And at HWT, Quean Smith will need to show a lot of improvement over last year if he is going to break into the top twenty.
