What to Know

MOC BLOCKED! Cyclones Outscore Chattanooga - Iowa State was last seen dismantling an underrated Chattanooga Mocs squad 83-63 on Monday. Naz Mitrou-Long led the way with 24 points, including 6-9 shooting from long range.

No. 4 ISU Faces Virginia Tech at Emerald Coast Classic - The Cyclones have only matched up against the Hokies on one other occasion. In 1984, Virginia Tech defeated ISU 80-53. Jeff Hornacek led Iowa State in scoring for that game with 14 points.

Virginia Tech-Iowa St. Preview - ESPN notes that Iowa State struggles shooting the ball on the road compared to when they're in Hilton Coliseum. Also, if the Cyclones do win today, they'll face the winner of Illinois and (GASP) UAB.

Prediction

Virginia Tech's one loss this year came in their season opener -- against Alabama State at home. They followed the loss up by only beating Jacksonville State by nine points. Their last two games have been blowout wins, but against similarly weak opponents.

Seeing as this is the first true test for the Hokies on the year, I don't expect them to play well against the talent upgrade. Iowa State should be able to control the pace of this game and win pretty easily, so long as they don't have an ice-cold night shooting the ball.

Give me the Cyclones.

Iowa State 82, Virginia Tech 68
