Trouble in Paradise: Duke Stomps Iowa State

A big first half run helped the Blue Devils get past the Cyclones in Cancun

Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Duke and its top recruiting class proved too much for Iowa State on Friday afternoon, as the Blue Devils defeated the Cyclones 86-48. Iowa State jumped to an early lead, but Duke closed out the first quarter with a 9-point run to lead 13-9. The 15th ranked Blue Devils continued to dominate with 26 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-24 lead into halftime.

Iowa State couldn't get anything going in the second half and finished the game an abysmal 2-21 from three point range.

Sophomore Bryanna Fernstrom led the Cyclones with 15 points in 29 minutes.

Bridget Carleton, who scored 11 points in yesterday's win over Texas State, left in the first half against Duke due to a mouth injury. Coach Bill Fennelly said he doesn't expect her to play tomorrow.

The Cyclones are now 2-2 on the season. Iowa State closes out its Cancun trip with a game tomorrow at 10am CT against Idaho.
