On This Day in Sports History
DECEMBER 15, 2011. Barry Bonds was sentenced to 30 days house arrest, two years probation, 250 hours community service and a $4,000 fine for an obstruction of justice conviction stemming from his 2003 grand jury appearance. The charges were dropped this past July.
Shooty Hoops Galore
AH, JUST LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS. West Des Moines Valley, Dowling Catholic, both Ankeny high schools and Des Moines Hoover are all ranked in the Top 10 in the first Class 4A boy's basketball poll of the season. Water is still wet.
HE'S A SUPER FREAK! SUPER FREAK! Deonte Burton is nearing his long-awaited transition from spectator to Cyclone basketball stud. As you well know, he's eligible to play Saturday against Northern Iowa. And here's just a bunch more stuff on the matter.
WELL, OF COURSE THEY'RE NOT. Iowa State was not nearly pleased with the manner in which it achieved its first 9-0 start since 2014 on Sunday.
TEETEE STARKS LOST FOR THE YEAR. The freshman guard will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair left ACL damage. She'll miss the remainder of the season and likely pursue a redshirt.
SHARING IS CARING. Jameel McKay averaged 17 and 10 last week, earning him Big 12 Co-Player of the Week honors with Javan Felix, who led Texas in a Saturday night upset of North Carolina. Oh, and that guy Jarrod Uthoff? He'll share Big Ten honors with Maryland's Melo Trimble.
YEAH, SURE, LEAVE IT UP TO HIM. How Naz Mitrou-Long's body feels leading into Saturday's showdown with UNI will dictate whether or not he suits up. I'll go out on a limb and say we'll see him on the court. And Chris Williams talks about NML's "new normal."
WIN OUT FOR 115. Which is still nowhere near Shane Battier's impossibly unbreakable record of 133 career wins. But hey, good for Georges.
. @GeorgesNiang20 played in his 84th win yesterday against UAPB. He's four wins shy of @MelvinEjim's record of 88. pic.twitter.com/EYfmGUgAOz

BIG 12 COACHES TELECONFERENCE. Jared Stansbury broke down yesterday's teleconference featuring Steve Prohm's Big 12 coaching brethren.
Iowa State Football, National Recruiting Powerhouse
NOT EXACTLY EMPTYING THE BANK. Assistant football coaches' contract details have been released, and Iowa State could be the caboose yet again in 2016.
A STORM IS BREWING. Matt Campbell and his recruiting staff have been nothing short of remarkable since first stepping foot in Ames (and clearly several other places). Here's your up-to-date Big 12 recruiting scorecard, courtesy of ESPN.
Editor's Note: Don't forget to follow along regularly with our football recruiting section of the site (hell, you should probably just bookmark it). As commitments break, we're consistently one of the first to publish. The problem is we might be running out of Matt Campbell photos.
Around The Country
ALWAYS KNOWS WHERE THE CAMERA IS. Odell Beckham Jr., who at this is point indisputably from another planet, made a catch again last night. It went well. And the Giants beat Miami 31-24.
IS THIS TARGETING OR. Tom Coughlin is 69 (nice) and still taking hits on the field. Well, the sideline.
DEAR GOD JUST COME BACK, HERM. I mean, come on.
#Houston coach Tom Herman will be fitted w a diamond grill on his teeth TUES, making good on a promise to his team for winning AAC title.

JOHNNY CUETO SIGNS WITH SAN FRAN. This new-look Giants pitching rotation will allow no runs in 2015, and may God have mercy on your soul.
WHO THROWS A SHOE, HONESTLY? Will Barton is an asshole, and I love it. Tie your shoes, kids.
YOU'RE A MOTHERBLEEPING BLEEP. NBA referee Bill Kennedy came out as gay this week, and it's Rajon Rondo on the receiving end of accusations that he directed anti-gay slurs toward Kennedy.
WE HAVE TO GET THIS RIGHT. Joel Klatt just keeps saying things I agree with. Today, we crucify Heisman voters who submitted their ballots BEFORE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND.
"We have to get this right!" -- @joelklatt frustrated that 15% of voters voted before the final game. #Heisman https://t.co/wQHtUTzotB
