One of the most impressive streaks in the modern era of college football has been extended, as the Iowa State Cyclones football program has run their streak of consecutive postseasons without a loss to three seasons. The last time ISU lost a bowl game was way back on December 31, 2012, when the Cyclones fell to Tulsa 31-17 in the Liberty Bowl.
While the anniversary of that date is coming up, Iowa State fans are too busy celebrating their lack of postseason losses to care. Word is that Campustown establishments are being run dry of their alcohol by Cyclone fans who are thrilled to go another year without a heartbreaking defeat following the regular season. Ames police have already found three charred dumpsters in the street on Welch Avenue, and more are likely to be burned over the course of the next few weeks as the party rages on.
Multiple sources have also confirmed to WRNL that the Iowa State University Bookstore is currently designing T-shirts as remembrance of this groundbreaking accomplishment.
When asked about "the streak," new ISU football coach Matt Campbell seemed so proud elated to take over a program with a rich tradition of not losing bowl games.
"Before I came here, Iowa State had gone two full seasons without suffering a postseason loss. That's simply amazing." said Campbell. "I'm just glad that after I arrived, we've now extended that streak to three seasons."
Campbell then explained how "the streak" has been helpful on the recruiting trail.
"It's one of the biggest aspects of my pitches to recruits nowadays. I tell them #AStormIsBrewing, then mention going three seasons in a row without losing a bowl game. Once I say that, kids can't commit fast enough. The media and fans seem to think it's because we work tirelessly around the clock, but that's simply not the case. All we need to seal the deal is this streak."
ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard offered up a few comments on "the streak" as well.
"It was hard to let Paul (Rhoads) go, knowing he had gone two full seasons without losing a bowl game," stated Pollard. "Regardless of who's coaching the team now, I can't wait to use this streak as a comeback to those idiot trolls on Twitter who complain about our program. It's been 1,093 days since our last bowl loss. That's something I can smile about at night when I tuck my shirt into my underwear before I go to sleep."
As it stands, Iowa State is currently also one of the best programs in the Big 12 Conference when it comes to fewest bowl losses. The Cyclones only trail conference powerhouse Kansas for the conference lead.
