A few weeks ago sources close to the Iowa State football program informed WRNL that linebacker Alton Meeks was leaving the football program. Now it has come straight from the horse's mouth:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/Cwest58">@Cwest58</a> yes sir</p>— alton meeks (@Murda_Meeks) <a href="https://twitter.com/Murda_Meeks/status/570660998299779072">February 25, 2015</a></blockquote>

Unlike the departures of DeVondrick Nealy and Tac Ecby, this departure appears to be motivated completely by playing time and a disagreement with the coaching staff. Sources tell us Meeks left the team earlier this winter due to his shuffling on the depth chart, was begged to come back and try his hand at tight end, and ultimately decided to leave the team all together.
An athletic department spokesperson would not confirm our request about Meeks' status with the program when we asked last week.
Meeks will be a sophomore this year, started last season against North Dakota State, and by all accounts had a bright future with the program. Best of luck to Alton in the future.
