The future starts today... or something.

Today marks the biggest day of the year for schools that have optimism for the future.  For Iowa State today marks a day where they sign the players that will make or break Paul Rhoads this season.  Most of the players that will sign a national letter of intent should not see the field for a year or two, but it's completely possible that some of the incoming freshmen will join the four signed JUCOs on the field in 2015.

Below you will find a direct feed from Cyclones.com that features the LOIs as they come in from the recruits, but before that let's provide a few quick highlights of Iowa State's 2015 recruiting class.

Who Has Already Signed

The Cyclones nabbed four JUCO commits who have already signed their LOIs and are either on campus or on their way.  Courtesy of Rivals, they are:

Jones played earlier in his career at North Carolina State and Tucker has the distinction of being the 2013 NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year.  Scoggins brings some much needed grit and size to the offensive line, and Wiltz provides another option in the secondary.

Given the holes on defense in 2014 these ready made, experienced bodies make sense and they'll pair up with 2014's premier JUCO signee Jordan Harris.

I'd love to opine about the men above but this class is equally underwhelming and small.  The latter is due to a small senior class, but the coaching staff is now behind the eight ball with the dismissals/transfers of five other players plus the strong rumors of two other offensive contributors leaving.  That leaves another seven scholarships open that Rhoads and company can do nothing with except award them to favored Iowa walk ons.

The staff is going all in on rebuilding both lines, but to win now they need immediate help and teammates Jaypee Philbert and Bobby Leath should help the offensive and defensive lines, respectively.  After that this class screams "development" but at this time next year we'll either be discussing another development laden class or talking about which of these guys will end up in the favored graces of a new staff.

When Are They Signing

Signings typically happen when the recruits arrive at school, and can roll in as early as 6:00 AM CST.  Below is a live feed from Cyclones.com (as of 8 AM CST):

Coverage

We'll have more coverage after signing day concludes with an attempt at analyzing the class, but for an immediate fill tune in to Cyclones.Tv at 12:30 PM to watch their Signing Day Special and at 3:00 PM to see Rhoads' press conference.  Hopefully sans chest thumping.
