Bouncing Around the Big XII

Another week of critical match-ups are certain to create more volatility in the middle of the conference pack.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

We did not get the beginning to the week we all wanted, but all hope is not lost with Kansas dropping their week ender in Stillwater. I would like to thank our Cowboy brethren for continuing to make Stillwater a hostile environment and ask you grant us clemency when Iowa State visits next Wednesday.

Did you know, with around one month left to play there is not a single Big XII team with a losing overall record? Deep.

The Week That Was

Monday, February 2nd

Iowa State (11) 76 - Kansas (8) 89

I wish I could say it was more competitive than the final score indicates, but I prefer the truth.

Tuesday, February 3rd

West Virginia (15) 52 - Oklahoma (21) 71

OH good. OU is peaking.

Fantastic.

Wednesday

TCU 57 - Baylor (19) 77

Thankfully, we've seen this Baylor before. Nothing to concern ourselves with.

OSU 65 - Texas (25) 63 (OT)

Just not good for Texas fans right now. Sorry, not sorry.

KSU 47 - Texas Tech 64

Barf.

Saturday

Kansas (8) 62 - Oklahoma State 67

We need more of these games against the Jayhawks.

Texas Tech 38 - Iowa State (11) 75

I warned you this could get ugly and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

Baylor (19) 87 - West Virginia (15) 69

Baylor got down with their bad selves.

Oklahoma (21) 68 - TCU 56

It was close at one point. I think.

Texas (25) 61 - Kansas State 57

Somebody had to win this game.

Players of the Week

Player of the Week - Rico Gathers, Baylor

Dude is a beast.

Newcomer of the Week - Anthony Hickey, Oklahoma State

The senior guard was an essential element in the week's wins over Texas and Kansas. This is the second time Hickey has left his mark as the league's best newcomer.

Game of the Week: Kansas @ Oklahoma State

The boys in orange came from 11 down at half to take down the #8 Kansas Jayhawks in Stillwater with only one three from three from a sick Forte. Wayne Seldon continues to be hot from downtown shooting 4-5 from deep to finish with 15 points for the Jayhawks.

The Week That Is

Monday

Oklahoma State (21) @ Baylor (16) - 6:00 PM on ESPNU

Iowa State (14) @ Oklahoma (17) - 8:00 PM on ESPN

Challenging matchups for three of the top four teams in the Big XII. This message will self-repeat.

Tuesday

Kansas (8) @ Texas Tech (NR) - 8:00 PM on ESPN2

Feel free to watch something else on this night. I'm not expecting this one to be close after Kansas' loss on Saturday.

Wednesday

Kansas State @ West Virginia (21) - 6:00 PM on ESPNU

TCU @ Texas - 7:00 PM on Longhorn Network (again)

Another night you could probably catch up on your DVR backlog. The K-State/WVU rematch should have been outlawed outright after the way their first game went down.

Saturday

Baylor (16) @ Kansas (8) - 12:00 PM on CBS

West Virginia (21) @ Iowa State (14) - 3:00 PM on ESPN2

Oklahoma State (21) @ TCU - 5:00 PM on ESPNU

Texas Tech @ Texas - 7:00 PM on LHN

Oklahoma (17) @ Kansas State - 7:00 PM on ESPN2

The conference picture may be a lot clearer after this day.

Game of the Week

Baylor @ Kansas - One of the only teams left I feel has a legitimate shot at taking down Kansas on the road. I don't expect it to happen, but what a lovely sight that would be. Iowa State needs to have a flawless week if it wants to benefit from this possible upset.

Conference Standings

Movin on Up

Oklahoma - The Sooners continue to click, winning their last four contests including road games at Oklahoma State and TCU. If there were ever a coach I would be happy to have when and if the Mayor leaves (please, never), Lon Kruger is absolutely that man.

Baylor - The Bears have ripped through their last three competitors.

Iowa State - Even with the loss during their Big Monday matchup with the Jayhawks, they find themselves alone in second place and within a game of the conference leaders.

Oklahoma State - Two wins over top 25 teams in the same week will help put you back in the rankings.

Texas Tech - They're not in last place!

Not Looking Good

Kansas State - ooof. The Wildcats have lost their last four games along with their troubled star. A continuation on this path could prove problematic for Coach Webber.

Texas - Not sure a win over the Webbercats is enough to turn around a disappointing season.

TCU - What once was will be again. TCU is back at the bottom.
