Iowa State to Open 2015-16 vs. Colorado

New, comments

The Cyclones and Buffaloes will tip off next basketball season on a neutral floor in South Dakota.

Per Jon Rothstein (NOT Jeff Goodman, who probably already knows what you're getting for your birthday), Iowa State and Colorado will ring in the 2015-16 men's basketball season Nov. 13 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

You can catch it 8:00 PM, Cyclone time.

As Rothstein mentions, the Buffaloes (14-16, 7-11) will return two formidable bigs next season in upperclassmen Wesley Gordon and Josh Scott. They will lose key senior Askia Booker, a volume shooter if there ever was one, but otherwise (pending what happens as we get into the thick of "free agency" season) should return all starters.

Tad Boyle will also add Kenan Guzonjic, a 6-8 junior college transfer from Midland, Texas, to add to the above-average frontcourt. Gozonjic committed just two weeks ago.

Iowa State's last matchup with Colorado can be traced back to Fred Hoiberg's first ever Big 12 Tournament game as head coach. A stellar final two minutes pushed Tad Boyle (also in his first year) and the Buffaloes to victory, as the Cyclones were sent packing. ISU had won the previous matchup just seven days prior in Ames, one of just three conference wins that year.

In a season already surrounded by so much hype, it will be imperative for the Cyclones to get off on the right foot with an early power conference win.

The start of the season is just 234 days away.
