Five Cyclones Make Phil Steele's Preseason All-Big 12 Teams

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

College football season is still more than two full months away from becoming part of our everyday vernacular again, but that doesn't mean we can't begin to educate ourselves on who's who in the Big 12.

Thankfully, Phil Steele, the trusted voice in college football preseason coverage, has released his 2015 Pre-Season All-Big 12 Team and Iowa State finds five of its players placed on one of his four preseason teams.

Offense

Allen Lazard, WR - 2nd Team

The former four-star recruit enters his sophomore season with high expectations, from both inside and outside the program. His ability to live up to those expectations leans heavily on the performance of his senior quarterback and a re-tooled offensive line, along with preseason snub, Quenton Bundrage.

Daniel Burton, OL - 4th Team

Burton, a three year starter from Oklahoma City, started every game in 2014, earning First-Team Academic All-Big 12 accolades along the way. Here's hoping he can add to that some non-academic hardware during the 2015 campaign.

Defense

Nigel Tribune, CB - 3rd Team

The junior cornerback was a 2nd Team AP selection after last season and is looking to add to his 94 tackles and 4 interceptions in year three.

Luke Knott, LB - 4th Team

Sorry, and no offense intended, but I'm scratching my head on this one. Maybe I just haven't paid attention enough.

Special Teams

Colin Downing, P - 2nd Team

Yes, our punters get a lot of press.

Other Notable Names:
1st Team

Trevone Boykin, TCU - QB

Shock Linwood, Baylor - RB

Samaje Perine, Oklahoma - RB

Shawn Oakman, Baylor - DE

Eric Strker, Oklahoma - LB

2nd Team
