Week 6 Summary
Sizzling. Blistering. En Fuego.
Those were all words you heard around the water cooler on Monday in reference to Betting the Big 12’s Week 6 picks. Last week I told you to trust the process. If you did, congrats on a very profitable week. We lost one of our very last bets of the day to finish 7-1 on the week. New rule: Take the over in all Texas Tech games until further notice.
|Kansas UNDER 63.5||$22||$20|
|Texas OVER 73.5||$55||$50|
|Iowa State +17.5||$33||$30|
|ISU OVER 66||$55||$50|
|Texas Tech +7.5||$33||$30|
|Texas Tech UNDER 70.5||$33||-$33|
Week 6: 7-1
Kansas State (3-2) @ Oklahoma (3-2)
Saturday, 11 AM, ESPN
Line: Oklahoma -11
Both teams are coming off really big wins for all intents and purposes. Stoops has a better team than his mentor Bill Snyder does this season. The Wildcats and Sooners come in with records that look rather pedestrian. When you take into account the competition they faced in their losses (Stanford, West Virginia, Houston, Ohio State) the records don’t seem as paltry.
I questioned last week whether Kansas State could play in a shootout in their game against Texas Tech. I was wrong. They kept up with the Red Raiders and tacked on enough to get the win. There is definitely something wrong with this Sooner defense, so I don’t think Kansas State will struggle to score.
The Wizard will find a way to keep this within striking distance all day. Oklahoma needs the win to stay alive for the Big 12 Championship. If Kansas State wins, could they be heading toward a special conference season?
The Pick: Kansas State +11, OVER 60.5
The Bets: $44, $44
West Virginia (4-0) @ Texas Tech (3-2)
Saturday, 11 AM, FS1
Line: Texas Tech -1
The Pirate Proteges.
Kingsbury and Holgorsen both come from the Mike Leach coaching tree, or maybe ship in this case. Kingsbury has stuck with the air raid style while Holgorsen has actually adapted pretty well year to year based on the strengths of his team.
The Mountaineers might be the most under the radar undefeated team in college football. The bye week last week didn’t help insert them into the national conversation but a win on the road in Lubbock just might.
The Red Raiders employ a break, but don’t break too quickly type of defense. They are going to let you score, its just a matter of how much resistance they choose to give you on any given drive. The Mountaineers on the other have shown the ability to win with in defensive battles and high scoring affairs.
The Mountaineers go into Lubbock and get enough stops (maybe one?) to come out with a victory. Our new rule is to take the over in every Texas Tech game until further notice.
The Picks: West Virginia +1, OVER 83
The Bets: $44, $55
Kansas (1-4) @ Baylor (5-0)
Saturday, 2:30 PM, FS1
Line: Baylor -35
Somehow the Big 12 messed up and gave Baylor three bye weeks in a row. Bye. Kansas. Bye. Lucky dogs.
Kansas is coming off a heartbreaking loss on a missed field goal as time expired. It landed.....wide right. They’ve played TCU close over the last few years, but alas close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
The line combined with the total would indicate a Baylor victory in the range of 51-16. Kansas games have only gone over 67 points once this season and that was against Kingsbury’s Red Raiders. Baylor continues to stumble out of the gates before executing down the stretch.
Baylor will overlook one bye week for the next bye week and it will be closer than it should be.
The Picks: Kansas +35, UNDER 67
The Bets: $33, $33
Iowa State (1-5) @ Texas (2-3)
Saturday, 6PM, LHN/Cyclones.Tv
Line: Texas -14
Iowa State has now improved significantly in three (or four if you count TCU) straight games. The Longhorns on the other hand seem to be a long, long way from that win over Notre Dame that seemed gigantic at the time, but isn’t going to hold much weight at the end of the season.
I can guarantee you that Iowa State will be covering after 45 minutes of play. They have become the best damn three quarter team in football. That last 15 minutes? Well, let us hope for everyone’s sake that it isn’t yet another repeat of the week before.
Could Iowa State actually win this game? Yeah, they could. Think of it this way. Texas hasn’t scored on Iowa State in over two years. Texas on the other hand? They are giving up points left and right. If you are looking for a job next season Charlie, we could use some help on the defensive side of the ball.
The Picks: Iowa State +14, OVER 69.5
The Bets: $33, $55
