Week Eight Recap
After a rough week 7, we bounced back nicely with a 6-2 record against the spread. We had the correct side in all of the games and our only two missed were on total bets. The best news of the week though is that our pride and joy Iowa State didn’t lose. With our successful week we got back into the black for the year.

The Cyclones seemingly had as much momentum as any team in the country a couple of weeks ago. I’m not a big believer in momentum and the last two weeks are the reason why. As excited as we get for college football season, it was nice to have a week off from Cyclone football. I can only imagine it was an energizer for the team as well.
What will they do with the rest of the season? A bowl game is still possible, but highly improbable.
In walks Iowa State’s kryptonite: Kansas State. As Iowa State fans we often compare ourselves to the Wildcats, but in all reality we would all feel extremely blessed to enjoy their consistent success. We aren’t Kansas State and that is fine, but there are many days I hope we’ve found our own Bill Snyder.
Look, my policy is to always take the Cyclones in this weekly piece. Picking against them is a lose-lose proposition. We’ll take the Cyclones to keep it close, and hope for the best.
The Picks: Iowa State +6.5, OVER 51
The Bets: $22, $33
West Virginia (6-0) @ Oklahoma State (5-2)

Later we will talk about the Texas Tech/TCU match-up that Vegas slapped an 88 point total on for a 4 quarter football game. West Virginia has already played both of those teams and gave up a total of 27 points in 8 quarters of football. The defense is legit.
Oklahoma State is 5-2, but their last three wins are against Kansas, Iowa State, and Texas which are arguably the three worst teams in the conference. Well, Kansas and Iowa State definitely are and it’s just kind of fun to throw Texas in there too.
What can we really make of the Cowboys? I don’t really know. We do know a lot about West Virginia. Let’s side with the team we know more about.
The Picks: West Virginia -3.5, UNDER 65
The Bets: $44 each
Baylor (6-0) @ Texas (3-4)
Saturday, 2:30 PM, ABC
Line: Baylor -3.5

Texas continued their streak of getting owned by Kansas State and now gets Baylor coming off a bye week. Baylor’s days as a member of college football’s elite are numbered, but it is almost November and they are still undefeated. They are still a force to be reckoned with this season.
Are Texas fans still hot and heavy over Tom Herman? Could we see Baylor end up with Mack Brown and Texas end up with Art Briles? Anything is possible in the wild Big 12.
Texas games have gone under the total the last two times out. Have they figured out something on defense with Charlie Strong calling the shots? It’s either that or they’ve played two straight inept offenses.
The Picks: Baylor -3.5, UNDER 72
The Bets: $44, $33
Texas Tech (3-4) @ TCU (4-3)
Saturday, 2:30 PM, ESPN2
Line: TCU -9.5
O/U: 88

Last week we continued our trend in taking the Red Raiders to cover a total of 84 points. One hundred and twenty five points later and we were laughing all the way to the bank. Last week marked the highest total I had ever bet over. That lasted one week. It just isn’t any fun rooting for the under in a game that will undoubtedly be a shootout.
I haven’t been impressed by TCU all season. With the Red Raiders, you at least know what you’re going to get. Kingsbury really, really needs this one to stay off the hot seat. He’ll come close, but receive no cigar.
The Picks: Tech +9.5, OVER 88
The Bets: $55, $44
Kansas (1-6) @ Oklahoma (5-2)
Saturday, 6 PM, FS1

In a few months, Iowa State fans will welcome the comparisons to Kansas. During football season? Not so much. If Kansas is anything like Iowa State (which they are) then they are going to Norman to be laid to rest. Honestly, there isn’t a more sure thing in sports than Iowa State and Kansas getting absolutely shellacked in Norman, Oklahoma.
Kansas has appeared to make some progress at home, but they haven’t been worth a damn on the road. Combining the spread and total would yield a score of 55-14. One thing I typically don’t do is to take a heavy, heavy favorite combined with the under. You can end up just hoping for a split three minutes into the game. I’m going to ignore my own tendencies and lay our money down on the Sooners and hope Kansas doesn’t sniff the end zone more than once.
The Picks: Oklahoma -40.5, UNDER 68
The Bets: $33 each
