History was made twice on Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum in Iowa State’s 130-63 victory against The Citadel. First, Monte Morris got 17 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds to become the first ISU player since Royce White to tally a triple-double. Second, the 130 points scored by the Cyclones broke a school record for most points in one game.
Altogether, eight different Iowa State players scored in double figures in this one. Joining Morris was Naz Mitrou-Long with a game-high 26 points, Matt Thomas (18), Merrill Holden (13), Darrell Bowie (13), Solomon Young (12), Nick Weiler-Babb (10) and Donovan Jackson (10).
The Cyclone offense was firing on all cylinders in this one. ISU finished with a 60.5% mark from the field, including 8/22 on 3-pointers. A stat head coach Steve Prohm will especially like is Iowa State had 31 assists to just 8 turnovers.
Meanwhile, Iowa State also played some inspired defense in this one. The Citadel was just 21/77 (27.3%) from the field and turned the ball over 17 times to the Cyclones.
The Citadel is admittedly not a high-caliber non-conference opponent, but it’s certainly a notable feat whenever you can score 130 points and score more than double the points of the opposing team.
