Big 12 Power Rankings: Week 13

These rankings are based loosely on the actual outcome of games mixed with a heavy dose of personal bias. Argue at your own peril.

1/ #7 Oklahoma Sooners – Record, 9-2 (8-0)

Last Week – Beat West Virginia 56-28

One game remains for Oklahoma to secure its second straight Big 12 Championship in football. Time will tell if this leads to a second straight CFP berth for the Sooners. Since they will not play in a conference championship game, they would need a dominant performance against Oklahoma State and a little help from the voters to make it in.

The so-called “Buckeye Blueprint.”

Remaining Games – Oklahoma State

2/ #10 Oklahoma State Cowboys – Record, 9-2 (7-1)

Last Week – Beat TCU 31-6

Oklahoma State’s path to the playoff is far more littered with debris left over from their early season “non-loss” to Central Michigan. However, a convincing win over the Sooners, some general chaos in every other Power 5 conference, and a strong lobbying effort may be enough to get the Pokes into the final four.

Remaining Games – @Oklahoma

3/ Kansas State Wildcats– Record, 6-4 (4-3)

Last Week – Beat #FBU 42-21

Kansas State, man.

How they do it is beyond me.

Remaining Games – Kansas, @TCU

4/ #19 West Virginia Mountaineers – Record, 8-2 (5-2)

Last Week – Lost to Oklahoma 56-28

West Virginia had their opportunity and they failed. Like so many seasons before this, they simply cannot get themselves up and over the hill of success without slipping just before reaching the summit and sliding back down to obscurity.

Now, they must travel to Ames to face a newly confident Cyclone squad looking for more blood. Not an enviable position.

Remaining Games – @Iowa State, #FBU

5/ TCU Horned Frogs – Record, 5-5 (3-4)

Last Week – Lost to Oklahoma State 31-6

The Horned Frogs have two more opportunities to gain bowl eligibility: against a team who will be inspired by a departing head coach and another who is inspired by magic.

Remaining Games – @Texas, K-State

6/ Iowa State Cyclones – Record, 3-8 (2-6)

Last Week – Humiliated Texas Tech 66-10

I still don’t know how to process last weekend’s drubbing of Texas Tech. The Cyclones brought a level of dominance I have never witnessed in my 41 years of fandom.

Trust the Process.

Remaining Games – West Virginia

7/ Kansas Jayhawks – Record 2-9 (1-7)

Last Week – Beat Texas (in football) 24-21

It looks like KU has a little bit of football fight in it after all.

Remaining Games – @Kansas State

8/ Texas Longhorns – Record, 5-6 (3-5)

Last Week – Lost to Kansas?

It’s difficult to remember, but I had Texas atop the Power Rankings after the first weekend of play. Alas, you can’t lose to Kansas without falling out of favor with the lone voter responsible for these rankings.

The only thing that could cause you to be any lower is…

Remaining Games – TCU

9/ Texas Tech Red Raiders – Record, 4-7 (2-6)

Last Week – WTF, Kliff?

...losing to Iowa State by 56 points.

Remaining Games – #FBU
