Iowa State up to #19 in the AP Poll

Cyclones move up 2 spots after positive week

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Gonzaga Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

The Iowa State Cyclones have moved up to 19th in the AP Poll after taking second place at the Advocare Invitational in Orlando last weekend in a close loss to 8th-ranked Gonzaga.

The surprise of the week, though, is Baylor. They’ve made the leap to 9th after beating two ranked teams in Michigan State and Louisville to win the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. They were one of four teams receiving first place votes.

Kansas is still squarely in the top 5, checking in at No. 4 this week, and West Virginia slid to 25th after suffering their first loss to Temple.

Iowa State will get another big opportunity Thursday at 8 p.m. as they take on Cincinnati. The Bearcats received 49 votes in the AP poll, which was good enough for 28th place. The game will air on ESPN.
