Iowa State Athletics

GUARD PLAY. Both Matt Thomas and Naz Mitrou-Long have had solid games recently. Iowa State will need that production come conference play.

FORMER COACHES. TJ Otzelberger and Jeff Rutter, two longtime buddies and former Iowa State assistants met in Des Moines on Monday and their circumstances are very different.

TWISTER SISTERS. The Iowa State women took it to Sacred Heart last night on ugly sweater night at Hilton Coliseum in their last non-conference tune up.

EURO CYCLONE. Former Iowa State golfer Cajsa Persson qualified for the 2017 Ladies European Tour after placing 11th at the final qualifying stage.

ISUCF’V’MB. The greatest marching band in the land has been awarded the 2017-2019 Sudler Trophy from the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

Around the Country

GRAYSON ALLEN. After intentionally tripping an Elon player last night, Duke announces that they have indefinitely suspended the Preseason National Player of the Year. The tantrum is my favorite part.

LESSON IN SPORTSMANSHIP. Ben Jacobsen is all class as a North Carolina player steals the ball for a dunk in the final 10 seconds of a blowout win.

OTHER COLLEGE BASKETBALL. Contrary to what your Twitter feeds might tell you, there was other college basketball happening last night, including an awesome Kentucky-Louisville game, and St. John’s beating the spread by 47 points against Syracuse?

POINSETTIA BOWL. BYU held off a late Wyoming rally in a rainy and turnover filled San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

BOB STOOPS. Good ole’ Stoopsy met with the media for the first time since the Joe Mixon tape was released, and didn’t necessarily help things. It also led to #hottaeks like this one in light of the Grayson Allen incident.

But is he wrong?

SKIPPING BOWLS. Everyone has an opinion on college stars skipping bowl games, but what does the NFL actually think about it.

JEOPARDY STAR. Cindy Stowell’s episodes of Jeopardy recently aired posthumously, and while she won’t get to watch her 7-day run or appear in the Tournament of Champions, she managed to raise a load of money for charity.
