After a week that saw the Cyclones drop to Texas Tech in Lubbock last Wednesday and handle #24 Texas at home, Iowa State moved up one spot to #13 in this week's AP NCAA Men's Basketball poll. The Clones, now back to full strength with the return of Jameel McKay, travel to Waco, Texas tomorrow for a showdown with the #25 Baylor Bears. It's been revealed that Deonte Burton will hold onto his starting spot for the game, with McKay once more coming off the bench. That may change by Saturday, when Iowa State hosts TCU at home.
In other Big 12 news, Kansas finally moved ahead of Oklahoma after beating them on their home court, locking down the #2 spot just ahead of the Sooners at #3. The Jayhawks get to face an Oklahoma State that resoundingly beat them a few weeks ago, although tonight the rematch will be held at Allen Fieldhouse. Meanwhile, Oklahoma faces two road tests this week, starting on Wednesday with Texas Tech and finishing Saturday at #10 West Virginia. The Mountaineers have a tough road battle before that game though, matching up with Texas tomorrow night on the Deuce.
Villanova held on to the #1 spot after two ho-hum games over St. Johns and DePaul. The Iowa Hawkeyes also stayed at their previous ranking of #4 after dropping to Indiana away and holding off Minnesota at home. North Carolina continued its climb, moving up from #9 to #5 this week, while Maryland tumbles from #2 to #6 after getting manhandled by Wisconsin at home. Virginia, Xavier, Michigan State, and aforementioned West Virginia round out the top 10. The full rankings are available below.
