Super Bowl 50 Open Thread: Storylines, Game Time, TV, Odds and More

This year's Super Bowl features the Carolina Panthers vs. the Denver Broncos and includes another former Cyclone going for a Super Bowl ring!

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Ah, the Super Bowl. The culmination of the American football season in which two teams battle it out for ultimate glory on the gridiron while billions of advertising dollars are dumped into getting you to notice a certain product as you stuff your face with whatever fattening snack/appetizer your watch party decided to plop out on the refreshment table this year.

Awesome.

This year's game has the Carolina Panthers, led by dabbing expert Cam Newton, taking on the Denver Broncos in what could be legendary quarterback Peyton Manning's last hurrah. Signs point to a good, entertaining game, so strap in and get ready for some football.

Iowa State Connection

There's one player who'll be on the field that graduated from Iowa State University: linebacker A.J. Klein. Klein played for the Cyclone football team from the 2009 to the 2012 football seasons, earning All-Big 12 1st Team honors in his junior and senior seasons, in addition to being named the Co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

This year for the Panthers, Klein has played in 15 games and registered 39 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception. You can watch the interception for yourself over on Panthers.com.

Postcrecent.com published a Q&A with Klein about preparing for the Super Bowl that would be a good read prior to kickoff.

Game Time

Super Bowl 50 will kick off at 5:30 p.m. CST on CBS with a wide array of different pregame programming leading up to the main event.

Odds

Most sportsbooks are listing the Panthers as 5.5-point favorites with an over/under of 45.

Halftime Entertainment

This year, the halftime show is headlined by Coldplay, and Beyonce is also set to make an appearance.
