Playlists for the perfect tailgate

graphikdeCYner

Cyclone fans and devout WRNL readers...football season is finally here!

We promised you playlists perfect for your tailgate, and never fear, we have delivered. The final installment of the WRNL Spotify venture is a few playlists that will be perfect for your football (or basketball) tailgate.

Without further adieu, let me highlight some of these tunes. Songs that will make you jump for joy, high five your friends/strangers, chug your warm Natty, and do various other questionable acts.

Rhoads Era Favorites

Perhaps the biggest story of the dawn of the Matt Campbell era is the team’s entrance music. Insider sources leaked to WRNL late Thursday evening that it would be ACDC’s Thunderstruck... Will that be the final choice? Regardless, we would be remiss if we didn’t have a playlist to serve as a requiem for the old walk out song and our old head football coach, Paul Rhoads.

Rhoads Era Favorites includes:

  • Smoke on the Water, by Deep Purple...
  • And that’s it.

Summary: Need a song that perfectly sums up the program and former coach’s failures? This playlist will deliver.

Pack The Jack

What does Cyclone Nation do every single Saturday (and sometimes Thursdays I guess) when there’s a game in Ames? They Pack the Jack. Regardless of the cold, or how frigid our team’s record is, Jack Trice Stadium is full and rocking.

Pack The Jack Includes:

  • Cyclone by Baby Bash, because duh...
  • Classic pump up songs like We Ready, Seven Nation Army, POWER, and ‘Till I Collapse...
  • Your typical football game rock songs like The Walk of Life by Dire Straits , Don’ t Stop Believing by Journey , Takin’ Care of Business by BTO, and Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by The Hollies...
  • Songs that are just too fun to not play at a football game, like the ‘Stones Start Me Up and Trooper’s Raise A Little Hell...
  • And many, many more classic football songs

Summary: If you’re in need of a playlist that brings you all the songs you might hear at a football game, then you’ve come to the right place.

Tailgate Trax

And now, the Pièce De Résistance.... The Tailgate Trax.

This playlist is a compilation of the WRNL Staff’s favorite tailgate songs. You’ll find a little bit of everything, from rap and pop to rock and roll. We put this together for your enjoyment, so you’d better use this playlist dammit.

Tailgate Trax includes:

  • Absolute tailgate must-haves, like Eddie Money’s Take Me Home Tonight, Guns N’ Roses’s Paradise City, Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard, and Aerosmith’s Sweet Emotion...
  • Roughly 1212381245 Credence Clearwater Revival songs, including Bad Moon Rising, Down on the Corner, Up Around the Bend, and Run Through the Jungle...
  • Some good-ol’ beer drinking country music, like Toby Keith’s Beers Ago and Who’s Your Daddy, along with Eric Church’s Record Year and Drink In My Hand...
  • Several catchy and fun party tunes, like MJ’s Beat It, Roses by OutKast, Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl, and Blink-182’s All The Small Things...
  • Rap songs that straight up get shit done, like Kanye West’s Amazing, All of the Lights, and Good Life, Eminem’s Crack a Bottle, and Drake’s hit Up All Night...

Summary: If you are tailgating, you’re probably jamming to songs like these. Why not turn to a playlist that has all you need right in one place? This playlist won’t let you down, which will probably make it the first ISU football-related thing that hasn’t let you down in 3 years.

Victory, Sweet Victory!

Finally, after the game is over and the battle is won, you’ll probably need some music to wrap up your tailgate before passing out/heading to Welch Avenue. We’d love to help you out...

Victory, Sweet Victory includes:

  • Sweet Caroline
  • We Are The Champions

Summary: What else do you honestly need? Besides, Sips will have all the post-game music you will ever need.

We hope that you enjoy these playlists and bump them like crazy tomorrow afternoon. And be sure to hit up the gamethread if you’re playing from home.
