Ahhhh, the Riot Bowl. Everyone’s favorite booze-fueled rivalry.

Iowa State being in control of their own destiny put fans in a strange place.

Four plays into the game, WVU already had a 7 point lead.

3 plays later, Kyle Kempt threw an interception that was so bad it was nearly intercepted twice.

Though that drive ended in a field goal, Will Grier would quickly toss a 55-yard TD bomb, putting WVU up 17-0.

After yet another WVU field goal, the Cyclones finally put together a long drive that ended after a bizarre quarterback run on 3rd down that looked about like this:

Iowa State couldn’t even kick a field goal without something going wrong.

After Iowa State got on the board, WVU missed a field goal, leaving ISU down 20-3 at the half.

Iowa State opened the second half with a long drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Allen Lazard.

Then, a long West Virginia drive ended with the Cyclones getting a huge stop on fourth down, and just like that, ISU had the momentum.

Iowa State would then drive down to the one yard line, but couldn’t punch it in and settled for a field goal.

The Cyclone defense would continue to play well, and the ‘Clones would eventually drive deep into West Virginia territory.

The Cyclones would, once again, have to settle for a field goal.

Needing a stop, the Mountaineers started driving down the field.

All of a sudden, DeAndre Payne made an incredible interception, stealing away a touchdown and keeping the ‘Clones in the game.

Iowa State’s final drive would stall, no thanks in part to a Trever Ryen drop, and the Cyclones would fall 20-16.

The defense was amazing yet again, and poor execution left the Cyclones close, but not close enough.
