Iowa State is headed back to the Memphis

Matt Campbell has his bowling shoes packed and Iowa State is ready for their postseason football trip.

Iowa State was selected to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and will face the hometown Memphis Tigers. Memphis was 10-2 in the regular season and both losses are to AAC Champion UCF. This will be Iowa State’s first bowl trip since they played Tulsa in the 2012 Liberty Bowl.

The Liberty Bowl is on December 30th. Kick-off is set for 11:30 AM CST on ABC.

With many of the conference championships yesterday knocking teams out of their playoff spots there was bound to be a lot of shakeup in how the bowls would be selected. All which would have affected Iowa State’s landing spot in some sort of fashion.

Iowa State will have plenty of time to get rested up and heal up injuries that were plaguing the team at the end of the season. David Montgomery is expected to be ready for the bowl game after some much needed rest.

Iowa State began bowl preparations on Friday afternoon, and continued through the weekend. Iowa State is limited to a total of 15 bowl practices before they take the field. Iowa State coaches will also be on the road recruiting hard the next few weeks as well.

It promises to be a busy time for Iowa State football, and we will cover you every step of the way. Stay tuned to WRNL.
