The Iowa State women earned a No. 9 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face No. 8 seed Syracuse (21-10) on Saturday in Storrs, Connecticut.
It’s a return to the Big Dance for the Cyclones following last year’s absence from the field. Iowa State has been to the NCAA tournament 17 times and 10 of the last 11 years.
Iowa State (18-12) was propelled into the field thanks to five wins to close the Big 12 regular season after starting 4-9 in conference play. The five-game run included a 70-66 victory on the road over No. 6 Texas.
The winner, barring the biggest upset in sports history, will play No. 1 Connecticut in the second round.
