Iowa State vs. Nevada: "Battle of Old Lincoln"

Our time is approaching to the start of the NCAA tournament where our Cyclones have made six straight appearances and the #5 seed in the Midwest and playing at 8:57 pm in Milwaukee, WI. Our opponent resides from Reno, NV, and ranked as the #12 seed. Okay, we know all this. But did we know the connection between Ames an Reno?

This started off as a mild joke when I posted a comment in the article about the Iowa State Cyclones vs. Nevada Cubs (Ne-Vay-Duh). I stated it should go down as the "Battle of Old Lincoln". As most of you fellow readers know, Ames and Ne-Vay-Duh reside on the Old Lincoln highway which is still accessible and widely used by myself. You can read about the history of Old Lincoln Highway here. Here is some Ames history on Lincoln Highway. And those of you from Ne-Vay-Duh know all about Lincoln Highway Days!

But along with that came a reply by a fellow reader whom I respect greatly, CornFedIABoy. He mentioned to me that with the Lincoln Highway, Ames and Reno are technically connected via this historic highway from the original route. Now isn't that interesting! Thanks, CornFed!

Below you can see the route of the Lincoln Highway on the map of the greatest country in the world... The USA.

On March 17th at approximately 8:57 pm CT, the Iowa State Cyclones will tip off against the Nevada Wolfpack. The Cyclones and Wolfpack clash together in Milwaukee, WI. These two teams will meet up in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday with a do or die scenario. 1,600 miles may separate these two teams, but one thing connects them: The Lincoln Highway. Since then, changes have occurred to this highway, but it still remains to be known as the Old Lincoln Highway to many a' folks. So buckle up, y'all! It's time for the "Battle of Old Lincoln".
