Iowa State basketball has landed a big time commit. Four-star Illinois forward Zion Griffin made his commitment known on Tuesday night.
Iowa State has had a bit of bad luck in recruiting lately, missing out on a few targets that could have turned the 2017 class into an elite one. The 2018 class? So far so good. Griffin has a 95 composite ranking according to 247sports. He is also currently ranked as the 58th best player in the 2018 class.
Joe Henricksen of the Chicago Sun Times let CylONEnation know of the commitment early Tuesday night. Griffin had offers from Kansas, Pitt and Illinois. He recently took official visits to Kansas, Pitt and Iowa State.
Griffin averaged 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a junior last season but he was playing primarily as a center. He has recently emerged playing as a forward and wing player.
Iowa State is after a number of recruits that could make the 2018 class a big one. Keep an eye on George Conditt and Tyler Harris. Both who would be great to team up with Griffin.
