Tailgate Preview: Texa$

Time for some Thursday night tailgate action.

After two weeks away from home, Iowa State football is back in Jack Trice Stadium. This time for a little action under the lights on a Thursday night. Certainly your tailgating plans are going to be different this time around. Luckily we are here to help you out!

I’m sure most of you are going to take the afternoon off from work. Probably not a half bad idea. There is booze to be drank and food to be ate. Let’s dive into this week’s tailgate preview.

Weather: Fall like feel in the air

We continue to miss out on hot temperatures this year. I, for one, am not complaining. Thankfully the rain entered the area on Monday and cooled everything off. We can expect temps to sit around 75 degrees for most of our prime tailgating time. If you are planning on entering the game, when the sun goes down it will be sweatshirt weather as temps will fall into the 50’s.

This kind of weather gets me pumped up for football in general. Add in some tailgating, and you almost can’t beat it! Prime drinking time!

Drink: Big-O Shot

Every good tailgate is complete with shots. This week we are going with an offense theme shot. Since so far this season we have been scoring at an Iowa State record pace. “The Big-O Shot” is easy enough to make, plus you can make enough the night before to bring to the tailgate.

Check out the recipe below. If you are not going into the game, a shot for every touchdown Iowa State scores will be your drinking challenge for the week!

1/2 ounce Southern Comfort

1/2 ounce Raspberry Liqueur

1 ounce Orange Juice

Combine pre-chilled ingredients. Pour into a shot glass. Serve.

Multiply each ingredient measurement by 64 to fill a gallon size container.

Food: Sassy Tailgate Sandwiches

Since we are on a trend for easy tailgating ideas. This week’s food is going to be different. These tailgate sandwiches are one of my favorites, even at home. These can be made the night before in tinfoil pans and thrown on the grill to warm up when it’s time to chow down.

You can find the recipe here. Thankfully, you can have these after the game as well. We all know how long it takes to get out of the lots after the game. A Thursday night game will certainly make exiting them that much longer.

Game: Beer Pong

What better way to take on some Longhorn fans than a friendly game of beer pong! I recently whipped this out over the weekend, which is part of the reason it has made it’s way in for the game of the week. I might also be a bit superstitious, as the last time we whipped Texas, beer pong was my tailgate game of choice.

If you shall lose a beer pong game, you must guzzle down one of this weeks shots. If you don’t lose, take a shot anyways. We are going to need you in your prime to make Jack Trice Stadium one hell of an atmosphere.

Song: You Want a Battle? (Here's a War)

Got a feeling this game is going to be a battle. So we will prepare accordingly.
