Iowa State Wrecks Tech

Iowa State was coming off of their worst performance so far, and rebounded with their best game of the season.

Iowa State was dominant for the entire game, except for the first four minutes of the second half where Texas Tech went on a 10-1 run to take the lead. After Tech took a 35-34 lead at the under-16, Iowa State outscored the Red Raiders 36-17 down the stretch.

This game was undoubtedly the most well rounded defensive show the Cyclones have put on all year, holding Texas Tech to their season low with 52 points. The Cyclones played suffocating defense which forced the Red Raiders to shoot 33.9% from the floor and just 23.1% from three point range.

Nick Weiler-Babb set the tone defensively and brought an energy that I don’t think we have seen all season. Weiler-Babb did this by making the hustle plays we didn’t see on Wednesday.

The Cyclones had one of their best games of the season on the offensive end, scoring 70 points against a top ten defensive team. Iowa State shot 47.4% from the floor and 38.1% from three point land, connecting on 8 triples.

Cam Lard set the tone in the first half on the block, both offensively and defensively. Lard had 18 points on the day, 14 of which came in the first half. He also tallied 3 blocks to go along with his 6 rebounds. However, Cam was assessed a technical foul, he now has a tech in back to back games.

Donovan Jackson hit some shots in Hilton for the first time in what seems like an eternity. DJ finished with 13 points and knocked down three triples. Donovan was also very active defensively and it showed, his effort really showed today.

Zoran Talley Jr. had his best game as a Cyclone. Coming off of the bench he had 11 points with 7 of them occuring during crunch time, including his first three pointer of the season.

Lindell Wigginton struggled from the field in the first half, scoring only 3 points but he bounced back in the second half. Lindell finished with 13 points. Wigginton hit a contested three with the shot clock running out in the closing minutes and got Hilton rocking.

Nick Weiler-Babb hit two of those shots and finished the day with 13 points, 5 assists, and 7 rebounds. Similar to the Baylor game, NWB and Wigginton hit tough shots in the closing minutes to ice the game.

What’s next for Iowa State? They travel to Austin to take on Texas on Monday night.
