Betting the Big 12: Week 8

Iowa State continues to steal money away from Vegas!!!

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Iowa State Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

While Iowa State shocked the world on Saturday, Oklahoma State dropped an egg, and therefore I went 1 for 2 on my picks, losing $100k. We are still a solid 9 for 13 on the year (69%), and have a make-believe money balance of $1,950,000.

Iowa State has been the beneficiary of most of those bets, as Vegas continues to lose money on the Cyclones. In fact, along with ISU, both West Virginia and Texas Tech are 4-2 against the spread, with the Red Raiders beating the spread by an absurd average of 11.5 points per game.

Here are your bets for Week 8 of the Big 12 College Football Season

There are SIX Teams with BYE weeks this week – Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Texas, and Baylor

#9 Oklahoma (5-1, 2-1) at TCU (3-3, 1-2) | 11:00 A.M. on ABC | Oklahoma -7.5

The Sooners are coming off a much-needed BYE week after a heartfelt loss to Texas, and TCU is bleeding profusely from an ugly loss at home to Texas Tech. TCU’s defense is stellar, while their offense is pitiful, only averaging 16 points per game over their last three.

That will be a massive problem to overcome against this vaunted Oklahoma offensive attack, who can score in a blink of an eye. TCU has slipped out of the upper echelon of the Big 12 this year, and Oklahoma will beat the tar out of them.

Home field advantage doesn’t quite matter in Fort Worth. I will swallow the 7.5 points, and take OU for $250k.

Kansas (2-4, 0-3) at Texas Tech (4-2, 2-1) | 2:30 P.M.| Texas Tech -20.5

Kansas is not as bad as people think they are, while it appears the Red Raider bandwagon is one to jump on at the moment. After a fantastic defensive effort (and road win) at TCU on Thursday, Texas Tech is all of a sudden the darling of the Big 12.

Not so fast my friend.

The Red Raiders have surprisingly beaten both Okie State AND TCU, but both of those programs are down a few pegs from in year’s past. Tech has a murderer’s row on their schedule after KU, and may be caught with their pants down looking ahead.

Either way, this is indeed a trap game. Texas Tech wins, but I’ll take Kansas and their 20.5 points for $100k.
