The only best rivalry game played between two teams that share a fondness of fire and a penchant for rioting happened on Saturday.

And Jack Trice Stadium was ELECTRIC.

Brock Purdy started off the game with a few awful throws, including an interception that led to a WVU touchdown.

But then David Montgomery things happened.

And Iowa State scored on three consecutive drives.

The Cyclones were rolling, thanks in large part to David Montgomery doing this.

And Hakeem Butler doing this.

And the Cyclone defense doing this.

Hell, Iowa State even benefited from the officials making the correct call on a replay!

Which, of course, was actually the worst outcome for the Cyclones, as a blocked field goal gave WVU another touchdown before halftime.

Speaking of halftime...

Connor Assalley would complete the special teams suck-fecta of a missed PAT, blocked field goal, and missed field goal shortly thereafter.

The officials tried to make Iowa State lose in the 3rd quarter, but the Cyclone defense held firm.

Cyclone fans Purdied like Brockstars after #15 found Deshaunte Jones in the end zone for a circus catch touchdown.

The Cyclone defense continued to play tough and mean, racking up more sacks and forcing Will Grier to toss an interception.

The hurt kept coming for WVU, as yet another sack forced a holding penalty in the end zone for a safety.

And then the game was over, the students were on the field, and the celebration was on.

And everyone sang “Country roads, take them home”.

It was rather rich of Dana Holgorsen to be concerned with “player safety” at the end of them game.
