A 1-3 Iowa State team came into Stillwater desperate for win, and they got one in the best way possible.

After a rough start, trailing 7-0, Iowa State made a quarterback change to the freshman quarterback, Brock Purdy. This decision changed the game completely, as Purdy played about as well as we could’ve hoped.

Purdy made an immediate impact after the ISU defense forced a safety, he threw a touchdown to Hakeem Butler. Both teams traded blows for the remainder of the first half, but the freshman quarterback responded bigger every time.

After three first half touchdowns on the hands of Purdy and one from Sheldon Croney Jr., the Cyclones led 30-21 at the half.

The defense showed up in a big way in the 3rd quarter, holding the Cowboys to just one touchdown.

After Iowa State had opened up a double digit lead, a quick Poke touchdown trimmed the lead to 5 early in the fourth quarter. But, Brock Purdy destroyed all the Cowboys’ hopes and dreams with a 60 yard touchdown to Tarique Milton.

Oklahoma State did score a touchdown with less than a minute left to get it within a one score game, but the Cyclones recovered the onside kick.

Brock Purdy had 318 yards passing with four touchdowns. To go along with his success in the air, he tacked on 84 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Iowa State looks to push this momentum into next week’s game at home against West Virginia.
