Betting the Big 12: Week 7

Is Texas Back???

Oklahoma v Texas Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

We broke even last week, as ISU beat the line (and then some), and Kansas somehow covered against our couch-burning brethren – West Virginia.

All in all, still sitting pretty, with plus funds of $1.05M, and a solid 9 for 13 on picks throughout SIX Weeks!

Here are your bets for Week 7 of the Big 12 College Football Season

Two teams have BYE weeks – Kansas and Oklahoma

Texas Tech (3-2, 1-1) at TCU (3-2, 1-1) | 6:30 P.M. on THURSDAY Oct 11th on ESPN | TCU -7.5

Both teams coming off much-needed bye weeks, and are now playing on a Thursday night in primetime. TCU has not been the team we expected, while Tech has surprised everyone so far with their play.

I suspect it will be a game full of points, even with TCU’s vaunted defense. The Red Raiders have been DECIMATED with injuries, including their top two signal-callers, so it might be a game played by third-stringer Jett Duffey, who may or may not have one of the sweetest names in all of College Football.

Either way, we will see fireworks, a close game, but the coaching prowess of Gary Patterson and his extra week to prepare should give the Horned Frogs the win.

Give me TCU and the 7.5 points.

Baylor (4-2, 2-1) at #9 Texas (5-1, 3-0) | 2:30 P.M. on Saturday Oct 13th on ESPN | Texas -14

Dare I say “Texas is back?” It’s hard not to jump on the Longhorn bandwagon after impressive victories against USC, TCU, AND Oklahoma. Tom Herman and company have already jumped into the top-ten, and there is no one hotter than those in the Burnt Orange.

Baylor has quietly taken care of business thus far, including a win last week versus K-State. The rest of their victories have been against creampuffs, and they will be in for a rude awakening in Austin.

Give me the Longhorns, and I will swallow the 14 points.

My top TWO BEST BETS of the week

Oklahoma State (4-2, 1-2) at Kansas State (2-4, 0-3) | 11:00 A.M. on ESPNU | Oklahoma State -6.5

Is there a team in the Big 12 that has under-achieved more than Bill Snyder’s Wildcats? They’ve struggled tremendously through the first 6 games, and will do so again against a Cowboy team that was embarrassed last week by Iowa State.

This 6.5 spread is pulling me in like a fat man at an all-you-can-eat buffet, and I’m hungry.

I’ll take Oklahoma State and fighting Gundy Mullets MINUS-6.5 for $250k.

#6 West Virginia (5-0, 3-0) at Iowa State (2-3, 1-2) | 6:00 P.M. on FS1 | WVU -6.5

Wow, does this have shades of the ISU/TCU matchup a year ago or what? Anytime the Cyclones play under the lights – ya better watch out. Give me the reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in Brock Purdy – and WVU should really be shaking in their boots coming to Ames, IA.

The Mountaineers pass the ball all over the field, and have put points up on the scoreboard, but have yet to see a defense as good as ISU’s. The arm (and more importantly, the legs) of Brock Purdy will give Iowa State a legitimate shot at knocking off the number-six team in the country.

I’m jumping all over this spread, and foresee it dropping down to 3.5-4 before game time. Give me the Clones and those 6.5 points for $150k.
