Betting the Big 12: Week 11

We’ve got Contenders and Pretenders!

We broke even last week and are starting to figure out who the “contenders” and “pretenders” are in this Big 12 Conference. It seems as though Iowa State has been invited to eat at the big kids table, along with Texas, West Virginia and of course, at the head of the table - Oklahoma.

Money wise, I’m still up $1,300,000, and after we have played 10 weeks Vegas is EXTREMELY accurate. That being said, yours truly is still 13 for 18, and I might as well start taking some bigger risks – playing with HOUSE MONEY!!!

Here are your Bets for Week 11 of the Big 12 College Football Season

Kansas (3-6, 1-5) at Kansas State (3-6, 1-5) | 11:00 A.M. (It doesn’t deserve TV) | Kansas State -12

The K-State Band needs to Bring this Back

OOOOH BOY!

The battle of the bottom of the Big 12 Conference! The Governor’s Cup (as they call it in the Sunflower State) pits two of the game’s saddest excuses for football programs. Kansas just fired their head coach, and Kansas State’s man in charge is so old he was eligible for the military draft clear back in WWII.

I have no idea what to think about this game (and I hope no one watches on TV), but my guess is with a new voice in the locker room, KU will cover the 12 points.

Baylor (5-4, 3-3) at #24 Iowa State (5-3, 4-2) | 2:30 P.M. on FS1 | Iowa State -14.5

This is the epitome of a trap game for the Clones. Iowa State is on a roll, and are winners of FOUR straight. Baylor on the other hand, is quietly having a successful bounce back year, and are on the verge of clinching a bowl game.

If this game were in Waco I would be worried (just a little bit), but with those Texans travelling north to play in 30 degree temps – ya gotta give ISU the nod here.

On the other hand, this spread is intriguing. It was the same as last week and ISU covered easily. All things considered, I see Baylor making it a bit closer.

Give me Baylor and the 14.5 points.

#17 Texas (6-3, 4-2) at Texas Tech (5-4, 3-3) | 6:30 P.M. on FOX | Texas -1.5

This one will be a barn burner! I was a bit surprised to see Tech originally favored in this one, but now Texas has swung the line. Then again Longhorns are coming off back-to-back losses, and if they want to continue their magical season they will need to get their defense back on track.

Tech’s starting quarterback Alan Bowman was forced out of last weeks’ OU game with another “recurrence” of a partially collapsed lung, and his replacement Jett Duffey nearly pulled off the upset. Texas’s Sam Ehlinger got back on track, but again it was the defense that was the big let down.

This one is a toss-up for me, but if you were to put a gun to my head, I would have to choose the Longhorns.

My Top TWO BEST BETS of the Week

TCU (4-5, 2-4) at #13 West Virginia (7-1, 5-1) | 11:00 A.M. on FS1 | West Virginia -13.5

Quite possibly the biggest surprise of the Big 12 thus far is the ineptitude of TCU. Boy have they have fallen off the map, and while they have a solid defense, their offense has been worse than a stage-5 clinger at a wedding. Look for West Virginia to be slowed down from 90 MPH down to a solid 65.

They are on cruise control, and the Mountaineers will win this game going away.

Give me WVU and I will swallow the two-touchdown spread for $250k.

Oklahoma State (5-4, 2-4) at #7 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1) | 2:30 P.M. on ABC | Oklahoma -18

Oklahoma just escaped from a shootout versus Texas Tech last week, and have another one on the way against the Mike Gundy Fighting Mullets. Oklahoma State is the true Jekyll and Hyde of the Big 12, so you never know which team will show up.

Oklahoma on the other hand is all about style points, attempting to vie for the top-4 in the College Football Playoff. QB Kyler Murray will sleepwalk his way toward 40+ points for the Sooners, and they will win this game going away.

But this is a rivalry game, and those 18 points are just enough for me to take the Pokes. I’ll take Okie State and the 18 for $250k.
