In the final before opening up conference play in Stillwater on Jan. 2nd, the Cyclones took on the Eastern Illinois Panthers (alma mater of Tony Romo and Jimmy Garoppolo).
The first 10 minutes of the game saw lots of good ball movement from the Cyclones, as the team tallied 10 total assists and opened up a 29-18 lead behind Marial Shayok’s seven points and Michael Jacobson’s eight.
Lindell took some time early to regain his shooting form, as he missed his first few shots, but did showcase his trademark athleticism. Shayok continued to lead the way in scoring with 23 points. Michael Jacobson had an efficient night of his own, finishing with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
Make no mistake. Eastern Illinois is really bad, but the offensive performance by the Cyclones was extremely impressive, and provides a great jumping off point as Iowa State heads into Big 12 play.
Of note: Cam Lard played eight minutes, and looked confident and in-control during both playing stints. This was a nice building block for him to get back into a rhythm.
The Cyclones will be back in action on January 2nd.
