100 Things Iowa State Fans Should Forget Before They Die: Blocked PAT Against Kansas State In 2009

Too many heartbreaks against Kansas State

Is there any team we play regularly that we sustain more heartbreaks from than Kansas State? No, there is not.

Iowa State and Kansas State met at Arrowhead Stadium. Iowa State led 17-10 in the third quarter. Kansas State would roar back to take a 24-17 lead in the fourth quarter. Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud led the Cyclones down the field late in the fourth quarter. He would connect on a pass for a touchdown to Jake Williams with 32 seconds left to bring the Cyclones within one.

Many felt the game was certainly heading to overtime, and it was all on Grant Mahoney’s leg to get them there. Then the patented kick to the groin happened. Kansas State defensive back Emmanuel Lamar got in the air, and blocked the PAT attempt, snatching away overtime and the game from Iowa State. Kansas State would win the game 24-23. Adding another moment to the long line of nut shots to the Cyclone faithful

What do our readers say about this horrific incident:

Grant Mahoney himself has spoken.
