After a wild weekend on the recruiting trail, there is still plenty of work to do for Iowa State to fill out the 2019 recruiting class. We have seen plenty of talent make its way to Ames for various camps and many recruits put Iowa State into their top choices. Here are five names to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
Jirehl Brock- Illinois
4-Star- Running Back
Iowa State was one of the first offers for Jirehl Brock, and has also visited Ames more than any other school that is currently recruiting him. This past weekend, Brock took his official visit to Ames. It was also his last one on his list, and now we await his decision. He mentioned that he will be making his choice to himself this week, and will announce in the near future. Currently, his crystal ball on 247sports points towards Minnesota, though I believe Iowa State will have plenty to say about his decision. Brock is a work horse, and can carry the load on offense if he needs too.
Breece Hall- Kansas
3-star Running Back
I don’t believe Matt Campbell has Breece Hall and Jirehl Brock rated all that different on their recruitment board. Though many teams are now after Hall’s services, Hall recently announced his favorite schools. Along with Iowa State, Hall listed Michigan, Kansas State, Tennessee, and others. It will be a tough race down the road, and if Brock does indeed choose Iowa State, don’t expect Campbell to take Hall as well. Watching Hall, you can see a lot of David Montgomery, as he plays with great leverage and can make would-be tacklers look foolish.
Nolan Matthews- Texas
3-star Tight End
Nolan Matthews is one of two tight ends that have Iowa State high on their choice list. Matthews also is considering TCU and Arizona State. He has great size, and can play both inside and outside in the passing game. Iowa State will be in on him ‘till the end, but stiff competition will keep things interesting.
Dez Melton- Arizona
3-Star Tight End/ Fullback
Dez Melton may be the number one target at tight end for Iowa State, and the feeling may be mutual. Right now, Iowa State is in great position with Melton, and he recently took his visit to Ames. Melton also has offers from Arizona and Nebraska. Melton’s tape is fun to watch, as he lines up all over the field. Melton has also rushed for over 1,000 yards each of the last two seasons. He could bring a ton a versatility to the offense, and that makes him extremely appealing to Iowa State.
Grant Treiber- South Dakota
3-Star Offensive Tackle
Grant Treiber is down to his final four schools: Iowa State, Oregon, Nebraska and Minnesota. Iowa State was one of the first schools to offer Treiber, but Oregon has started to make a strong push. It is still unclear which way Treiber will go, but he is certainly the type of bruiser Iowa State could use. Treiber has also been to two camps in Ames, and has given Iowa State plenty of opportunity to work with him. We should see his decision relatively soon.
