Iowa State Picked 7th in Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll

It’s never too early for basketball content.

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament-Iowa State vs. Kansas State Amy Kontras-USA TODAY Sports

Football season may be in full swing, but basketball season is just 19 days away. The Big 12, and Iowa State, have begun media preparations for the season. Today, the men’s basketball preseason poll was released, and Iowa State was picked 7th by the conference’s coaches. The Cyclones lose 5 of their top 7 scorers from last season’s team, including 2 NBA draft picks, but return preseason all-conference pick Tyrese Haliburton, and will add multiple transfers and freshman expected to contribute right away.

As expected, Kansas, who finished 3rd last season, was the preseason pick to win the conference. The Jayhawks are lead by preseason player of the year Udoka Azubuike, and received 8 of 10 possible 1st place votes. Baylor is tabbed as the runner up, with 1 first place vote. Texas Tech, last year’s co-champion and national runner-up, received the other 1st place vote and came in 3rd. The other defending co-champion, Kansas State, was picked 9th after losing much of their production from a year ago.
