Tailgate Preview: TCU

Rain rain, go away. No, seriously.

It’s going to be a wet morning folks. For the 9,000th consecutive weekend. Have no fear. There will be a game and if you’re lucky enough to get on a paved lot and not 300 miles away due to the closure of grass lots. Then you are in for a real good time!

Weather- Wet and Cool

As if there were any other type of weather that would grace Ames on a football Saturday.

The Weather Channel (I personally prefer weather underground, but I believe that name is also used by a terrorist organization) states that there is a 70% chance of showers Saturday morning, with a chance of thunderstorms right at (you guessed it) game time. The temperatures will be warm-ish, so be sure to wear a heavy sweatshirt and maybe bring a hat and some gloves.

The good news is that it will be raining during your tailgate. Thankfully, it won’t start actually storming until game time. The silver lining is that it might clear up after the game is delayed a couple hours. In all, it should make for a typical Cyclone Saturday.

Food - Hot Water

This recipe is a sure-fire crowd pleaser at any ISU home football game. It is easy to prepare, requires few ingredients, and is great for the environment!

Simply set a chili pot on the roof of your vehicle, wait about 5 minutes until the rain fills up the pot to the brim, and start it a boiling!

For extra flavor, you can add a dash of salt, which will also help your water boil a bit faster. Serve your tasty dish in mugs with nothing else.

Drink - Water

Staying hydrated is especially important on football Saturdays, and water hits the theme of this weekends tailgate perfectly!

There are plenty of brands to choose from if you would like to go the bottled water route. There is fancy Evian water, disgusting but fancy sparkling water, or your run of the mill PureLife water priced at $4.00 for 50 bottles.

With the weather forecast in mind, you could also just set a cup out and wait for the torrential rain to fill it up for you, if you don’t mind drinking natural rain water.

If none of those options work for you, you can always turn to canned water.

Game - Duck, Duck, Splash

It’s like Duck, Duck, Goose, except that you throw water on the person you pick instead of patting them on the head.

Why play this game, you might ask?

Why not? You’ll already be soaked anyway.

I hate everything.
