WBB Game Thread & The Best Performance Against: Southern

10,554 fans made it into Hilton Coliseum on December 6, 2015, to see the women’s basketball team take on the first of three SWAC opponents for the 2015-2016 season.

The Cyclones, with beloved players such as Kidd Blaskowsky, Emily Durr, Seanna Johnson and Jadda Buckley were ready to take on the ballers from Baton Rouge.

Unfortunately, Cortni Purnell’s jumper and free throw would put Southern up 3-2 with 7:35 left in the first, and a imbalanced seesaw towards the Cyclones kept them up 15-10 after a quarter.

Held scoreless in the opening stanza, was true freshman and former Des Moines Roosevelt Roughrider Meredith Burkhall.

Burkhall would go off for 12 points in the second quarter to go into halftime as the game’s leading scorer. In the second half she had six points and six rebounds to finish with 18 and eight boards in 27 minutes of play.

Seanna Johnson also had herself a game, having 12 points and 14 rebounds for yet another double-double.

Additionally, the bench came alive in this game, outscoring Southern 29-8 which made up for going 22/32 at the line.
