Coming off of a pathetic loss at home where they showed no effort, Iowa State was in need of an inspired performance. They got the exact opposite in the first half. Iowa State started off with Marial Shayok picking up two early fouls and being taken out of the game for nearly the entirety of the first half.
Other than Shayok being on the bench, we saw Team B perform for the Cyclones. The first half was filled with minimal effort, a lack of rebounds, and a lot of missed shots. TCU led 36-28 at the half.
Iowa State looked a lot better in the second half. They were showing more heart on defense and were getting loose balls and even boxing out. They started to attack the basket and that resulted in the game being competitive. Michael Jacobson played a huge part and was one of the few bright spots on the day.
In the last few minutes, Iowa State was tough and was hitting shots but TCU just hit more. Kouat Noi was injured the last few games and led the Horned Frogs with 20 points, he also hit some DUMB shots down the stretch. Iowa State had chances late, THT had a three rattle out with 2 seconds left that would’ve tied it.
The end of the game was a fitting end to a frustrating day in which the Cyclones shot 2-20 from three point range. Iowa State has a lot to work on before they get into March, and that starts on Monday against Oklahoma.
