Take a deep breath. As if Iowa State fans needed any more games to raise their blood pressure. Iowa State traveled down to Norman and many expected a close game, and that’s what we got.
Iowa State started off really slow and Oklahoma started out really hot. Thanks to Brady Manek, OU got up by 10 early in the first half. Manek was the hottest Sooner tonight with 16 points on 4-7 from three.
Iowa State inched back throughout the half largely because of Lindell Wigginton. The sophomore had 11 points on 3-5 from three in the first half. Iowa State managed to get OU’s lead down to one point at half.
The second half was the dunk show for the Cyclones, the majority of their season-high 12 dunks came in the second half. Almost everyone helped in this department. Cameron Lard through down two monster dunks, including this one:
ISU and Oklahoma traded blows the entire half but Iowa State led most of the way. However, Oklahoma tied it late at 69 all. The last 2:30 was all Marial Shayok. Even though he struggled all game, he locked the game down at the end. Shayok hit the dagger three at the end of the shot clock to give Iowa State a 72-69 lead.
Iowa State managed to get a lot of stops down the stretch and hit free throws to ice the game. Lindell Wigginton was the player of the game, he had 17 points on the night. Shayok added 16. Talen Horton-Tucker and Tyrese Haliburton had 11 a piece. Michael Jacobson rounded out double digits with 10.
This was another grinder for Iowa State which is becoming the theme for this season. Iowa State has now closed out two close games in 48 hours which is a great sign for a young team trying to win a Big 12 Championship. This win moves Iowa State to 7-3 in the conference with TCU coming to town on Saturday.
