Iowa State fell to Ohio State 62-59 on a rough night in Tulsa.
Iowa State came out of the gates flat. Missing almost every shot in the first few minutes allowed Ohio State to jump out to a 9-2 lead early on before a quick Steve Prohm timeout. The Cyclones finally woke up, going a 15-2 run to take a 17-14 lead. The Buckeyes would fight back forcing Iowa State into a 8 minute scoring drought and Ohio State would reclaim the lead and get it to 6.
Iowa State tightened things up before the half as they went into the break down 26-24. The Cyclones shot 29% from the field in the first half including 4-12 from 3pt range. Marial Shayok led the Cyclones with 13 points in the first half but no other Cyclone scored more that 5 points before the break.
Ohio State came out and held Iowa State at bay for most of the second half. The Cyclones would battle back to grab a one point lead late in the second half but the Buckeyes would come right back and grab the lead and wouldn’t give it up. Nick Weiler Babb had a look at the tie with a three pointer late but it would not fall and Iowa State would be bounced in the first round.
Marial Shayok led the Cyclones with 23 points. Iowa State just couldn’t get anything really going offensively other than Shayok. Lindell Wigginton scored 14 points and Cameron Lard added in 12 points.
