Following Iowa State’s control of the tip, Alexa Middleton got a layup 14 seconds into the game. Kansas would go on a 6-0 run and Iowa State wouldn’t make a shot until 6:59 remaining in the quarter thanks to Maddie Wise.
The rest of the opening quarter would go back and forth with points and Kansas would eventually lead 18 to 17 after one.
The Cyclones were hampered by six turnovers, but Ashley Joens’ seven points kept the margin to one.
Iowa State clamped down on defense and had another staple second quarter, outscoring the Jayhawks 17 to 8 to go into half 34 to 26.
The Jayhawks taloned their way back to within nine thanks to Christalah Lyons and Chelsea Lott.
Good ball movement propelled the Cyclones, and specifically Ashley Joens to extend the nine point lead to a twelve point lead.
