Our AHF (Actually Helping Farmers) “campaign” was originally created about a half-decade ago mostly as a troll of the University of Iowa’s America Needs Farmers campaign that tends to do a lot more talking than walking. In the past, we’ve made charitable contributions to Iowa State’s College of Agriculture, and now we’ve decided to step up our Actually Helping Farmers game just a little bit more.
This summer, we’re hosting the first ever Actually Helping Farmers Charity Golf Outing at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames on July 20th, 2019. The event will be a shotgun start, and registration is tentatively scheduled for 11 AM, but may be adjusted.
The entry fee will be $340 per foursome ($85 per person), and will cover green fees, cart, and a meal provided by Hickory Park! All remaining proceeds will be donated to Practical Farmers of Iowa, an organization from Ames that provides tons of information and resources for:
- Beginning Farmers
- Cover Crops
- Farmer-Led Research
- Farmland
- Conservation
- Farm Transfer
- Field Crops
- Horticulture
- Livestock
- Local Foods
- Risk & Financial Management
- Policy
How Else Can I Help?
As with many charity golf outings, we’re looking for hole, drink cart, and flag event sponsors to add to our donation. Every sponsor will have a sign with your business’ logo next to the green or on the drink cart. We’ll have lots of people on the course, so it’ll be a great opportunity for some extra exposure for your business, and you’ll be helping out a great cause!
We’re also hoping to do a silent auction to generate some more donation money, but unfortunately will not be able to include any signed ISU memorabilia since “AHF” isn’t a university initiative. That said, we’ll be offering some special edition merchandise for auction, and would be grateful for any items you or your business would be willing to donate.
If you or your business would be interested in sponsorship or donating any silent auction items, let us know! Just send an email to Levi Stevenson (levistev at gmail dot com), and we’ll get you set up.
Registration for the outing will be open next week, so keep and eye out for that, and start putting together your drinking team ball-hunting team foursome of world domination!
