Monte and the Nuggets are moving on. Others, not so much.

NBA

Monte Morris (Denver Nuggets)

Thankfully 1 former Cyclone will continue their season. The Nuggets held off a valiant effort from the Spurs in Game 7 to advance to the conference semifinals. Monte was fantastic in the 4 games the Nuggets won. He scored 9.8 points on 53 percent shooting in wins, whereas in 3 losses he scored 5.3 points on 36 percent shooting. In a tense game 7, Monte played a pivotal role at the end of the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th quarter to keep the game at a comfortable margin, including a floater we’ve seen so many times over the years.

Here about the game from the man himself:

The Nuggets will face the Blazers in the Western Conference semifinals as a slight favorite to move on. Game 1 of that series is on April 29th.

Georges Niang (Utah Jazz)

Georges appeared in blowouts in the first 2 games for the Jazz as the Rockets ran them off the floor in Houston. The first game at home was a different story. Georges was a part of the rotation, getting 17 total minutes and scoring 8 points with 7 rebounds. He was 3-7 from the floor and shot 2-6 from 3.

The Jazz lost game 3, but won game 4 as Georges was +8 in 9 minutes. He was +8 again in game 5 as the Jazz’s season came to an end.

Georges is now in a precarious place. He made huge strides in year 2, especially when he got a chance to play. His Jazz teammates seem to like him. His contract for $1.6 million next year becomes fully guaranteed on July 6th. ESPN’s Bobby Marks speculates that his contract will get picked up for next year and return for 2020 (ESPN+ required).

Abdel Nader & Deonte Burton (Oklahoma City Thunder)

The Thunder bowed out in 5 games against the Blazers, as Portland got redemption for their own playoff flameout a year ago. Nader and Burton both played on the back end of blowouts in game 2 and 4 for the Thunder. Nader scored 2 points in game 4 and Burton scored 2 points in game 2.

Naz Mitrou-Long (Utah Jazz)

Naz didn’t appear for the Jazz in their first round series against the Rockets.

International Notes

Matt Thomas’ team, Valencia Basket, won the EuroCup championship on April 15th.

Thomas scored 19 points and made 5-7 3s in the clincher, a dominant 89-63 win over AC Berlin.

Tyrus McGee is now playing with Dinamo Sassari in Italy. In 12 games in Serie A, he is scoring 10.3 points per game.
